The Black Tavern 1972

"The Black Tavern" is the Shaw Adaptation of the 1953 french Fernandel Movie "L'Auberge Rouge" and is also a loose Sequel to "The Lady Hermit".

A Beggar Monk (Dean Shek) steps into an Inn and is telling the Story of Hai Gangfeng, who supposedly just received a big bribe and is now said to travel the country with his incredible wealth. This calls for some thieves and murderers, who are now hot on Hai's trails. Of some of them Hai is saved by swordfighter Zha Xiaoyu (Tung Li). Hai, his servants and Zha eventually find shelter at an odd tavern, whose owners seem to be cannibals. They also have heard of the money Hai is supposed to carry with him, but it shows that Hai is actually the formidable and fearsome Whipmaster Zheng Shoushan (Ku Feng), so that the tavern inhabitants lose their lives, in the end.
Aside from some other dubious characters, who heard the story about the gold, there is also the real Hai Gangfeng arriving at the inn. It seems that Zha has chosen the wrong side, as Zheng is like everyone else just a killer who is interested in the money of Hai. However, the information about Hai has been leaked by someone, who hopes to gather all villians of the martial world, in order to take them out once and for all.

Dr. Chi and his wife are sceptical about the idea of Margaret having been the victim of black magic. Mrs Chi even offers herself as a guinea-pig to prove whether or not there is such a thing as black magic. Dr. Shi then promises to give Kang Chung US$10,000 if he can cast a magic spell on Mrs Chi. The black magician proves his power by making Mrs Chi behave in a very peculiar manner, and the delirious Mrs Chi will die in 24 hours if no antidote is given to her. Fortunately for her, the timely arrival of a kind-hearted old super black magician saves her life. Her grateful husband also receives from this good black magician a charm, with which to defeat the wicked black magician, Kang Chung. Meanwhile, Kang Chung has caused his victim, Margaret, to come to his house, followed by her husband, Dr. Shi. Cat vs Rat 1982

Chan Chiao a.k.a. The Cat (Adam Cheng) and Pai Yu-tang a.k.a. The Rat (Alexander Fu Sheng) compete in various flamboyantly choreographed duels before realizing that they must seek the judgment of their master (Lau Kar-wing). He disappoints them by ruling that their abilities are perfectly equal, then being so completely impartial as to give the Rat a nine-ringed sword which he can use to defeat the Cat, and giving the Cat a spear to defeat the sword which he just gave the Rat. A few more contests result in ties before a subplot gets underway involving a precious jade seal owned by the Emperor Yung Hsi (Gordon Lau) and the thieves out to steal it. This, finally, is what forces the Cat and Rat to work together and overcome their rivalry.
